A former deputy governor of Ondo state, Agboola Ajayi, has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November governorship election.

He polled 264 votes at the party primary.

His closet rival, a former member of the House of Representatives, Kolade Akinjo, got 157 votes.

Agboola Ajayi had earlier expressed optimism that he would win today’s primary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) with a comfortable margin.

Agboola is one of the seven aspirants seeking to emerge as the party’s flag bearer in the November governorship election.

A total of 627 delegates participated in the polls.

Agboola told journalists on Thursday morning, that had gone round the 18 local government areas to campaign on why he remained the best option to rout the APC out of power.

The former Deputy Governor said the November poll would be a walkover for the PDP if the delegates lived up to their promises to vote for him.

He stated that he possessed the political will to turn the state around for the citizens to be happy.

“You can see that the APC is already a divided house. The PDP needs a strong candidate like myself to secure victory.

“I am very optimistic of winning today’s primary. I have told the delegates my vision and mission and they know that I know how to take care of party members. They know I can make everybody happy.

“I have told them about my plans to develop infrastructure in the riverine communities. I assured them of plans to create jobs and make live meaningful for Ondo people.” He said.
