Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has condoled with the Government and people of Adamawa State over the passing of elder statesman, distinguished businessman, former Governor of the old Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, who died at the age of 90.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.
Governor Yusuf described the death of Alhaji Tukur, the Tafidan Adamawa, as a great loss to Adamawa State, Nigeria and particularly the northern region, saying the deceased was an accomplished statesman whose life was defined by service, integrity, enterprise and commitment to national development.
The Governor said Alhaji Tukur was a respected personality whose remarkable career spanned public administration, governance, politics, business and continental economic development, leaving behind an enduring legacy of service and leadership.
He noted that the late elder statesman made significant contributions to Nigeria’s development, having served in several strategic capacities, including as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Governor of the old Gongola State, Federal Minister of Industries and National Chairman of the PDP.
Governor Yusuf also acknowledged the deceased’s contributions to the private sector and his leadership roles in major African business organisations, saying they reflected his commitment to economic growth, entrepreneurship, intra-African trade and sustainable development.
He further described Alhaji Tukur’s role in democratic governance as significant, noting that his tenure as National Chairman of the PDP formed part of his long record of service to Nigeria’s political development and national unity.
“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a statesman of exceptional experience, wisdom and dignity. He belonged to a generation of leaders who devoted their lives to the service of the nation and the advancement of our people.
“His contributions to Nigeria’s political and economic development will continue to be remembered, while his commitment to the unity, progress and prosperity of the country remains worthy of emulation,” Governor Yusuf said.
The Governor, on behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Government and people of Adamawa State, as well as the political, business and public service communities across Nigeria.
He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive Alhaji Bamanga Tukur’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus and give his family, relatives, associates and all those mourning his passing the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
