The Katsina State Government has denied allegations that it sponsored bandits to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, describing the claims as false, misleading and politically motivated.
The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, made the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday in response to comments made by Bashir Kurfi during a programme aired on Trust TV.
Mu’azu said the allegation lacked any factual basis and was aimed at misleading the public and undermining ongoing efforts by the government and security agencies to combat insecurity in the state.
According to the commissioner, the claims surfaced at a time when security agencies, with support from the state government, are recording notable successes in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
He argued that the accusation was a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the progress being made in restoring security across Katsina State.
Mu’azu also expressed concern over what he described as the politicisation of security issues by individuals pursuing personal and political interests, warning that such actions could undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace.
