KHAIRUN’S Colloquium honour excites BUK VC

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, BUK, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to partner with Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, KHAIRUN, aimed at meeting the international standard of science and technology.

Professor Musa stated this shortly after the management of KHAIRUN led by its vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba unveiled plans to honour him with a colloquium and conference scheduled to hold from August 18th to 19th, 2026 at Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata Auditorium, KHAIRUN premises.

The Vice Chancellor who described the honour as a motivation said it would spur him to redouble efforts towards promoting teaching and learning as well as continue to partner with relevant bodies within and outside the country in order to sustain the University high profile.

”Organizing a colloquium and conference in my honour as the 12th Vice Chancellor is really appreciated and encouraging. The occasion is timely and it also give us an opportunity to interface and partner with other stakeholders in promoting higher education not only in Kano but in northern Nigeria and the country at large,” he explained.

Professor Musa however, said that the Universities in Kano and beyond had been looking forward to a platform where public and private institutions could interact and jointly chart a way forward.

He expressed confidence that at end of the programmes , the communique and recommendation from the colloquium would contribute to transform science and technology education in the country.

In his remarks, the KHAIRUN’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba said that the decision by KHAIRUN to organise the colloquium was driven by three major objectives, including the honoring of Professor Musa as the 12th Vice Chancellor of BUK.

Prof Abdulrashid Garba pointed out that the initiative would also create an avenue for Universities in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states to appreciate BUK for its contribution to the development of higher education in the zone.

He emphasized that the universities in these three states were the product of BUK, which remains the mastermind of their establishment.

The Vice Chancellor added that the colloquium would also provide an opportunity to asses the development and impact of science and technology education, particularly in view of Prof Musa’s background as a chemist and his standing in the international academic community.

He expressed optimism that the event would produce practical recommendation that could be adopted by governments, universities, and the private bodies to strengthen science and technology education in the country.

Prof Abdulrashid Garba however, announced that a committee of experienced members have been constituted aimed at ensuring a successful event.

He assured that with the calibre of committee members drawn from KHAIRUN and BUK, the sky will be their limit.

The colloquium is expected to bring together researchers and stakeholders from different fields of endeavor including engineering, information technology, medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences among others.
