Sen. Abdulrahman Kawu-Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District, has distributed 16 vehicles, 400 motorcycles and 600 sewing machines to constituents to promote economic empowerment and grassroots development.
The distribution was part of the senator’s 12th empowerment programme since 2023, aimed at supporting businesses, creating employment opportunities and improving the welfare of constituents.
Under the programme, 16 vehicles were presented to All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen, while 400 motorcycles were distributed to party executives across the district.
Similarly, 200 tailors received empowerment packages containing two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine each to strengthen their businesses and enable them to employ and train others.
Speaking at the event, Sumaila said the initiative reflected his commitment to translating the trust of the people into tangible development, economic independence and sustainable livelihoods.
He acknowledged the economic and developmental challenges experienced in the past three years but said his commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to the people remained unwavering.
The senator listed security, road infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare and water supply among the areas his constituency projects had addressed.
On security, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property across communities in Kano South.
He also commended local vigilante members, popularly known as Yan Sa-kai, for their efforts in securing Falgore Forest in Doguwa Local Government Area.
On infrastructure, Sumaila said several roads had been constructed and rehabilitated, while bridges and drainage systems had been provided to improve transportation and commercial activities.
In agriculture, he said farmers had received agricultural machinery, farming implements, improved seeds and thousands of bags of fertiliser to support wet- and dry-season farming.

He pledged to sustain efforts towards human capital development, economic empowerment and improved living standards across the district.
