Student Leaders Calls for Upgrading of Digital ICT Training Centres

The President of the Northern Students’ Forum Comrade Mustapha Ahmed, has called for establishment and upgrading of digital ICT training centres nationwide to equip students with relevant skills.

Ahmed made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, stressing the need for greater investment in digital education.

He said access to quality ICT training had become essential for students, particularly as technology continued to shape education, employment and entrepreneurship.

According to him, many Nigerian students were interested in acquiring digital skills but lacked access to functional training centres, modern equipment and reliable internet facilities.

The president urged the Federal Government, state governments, educational institutions and private sector organisations to collaborate in establishing and upgrading ICT training centres across the country.

He said the centres should provide practical training in areas including software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, digital marketing, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

Ahmed also called for affordable training programmes and scholarships to enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to acquire digital skills.

He said investment in ICT training would help improve students’ employability, encourage innovation and support youth entrepreneurship.

The student leader urged universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions to strengthen practical ICT education and ensure that students were equipped with skills required by the modern labour market.

Ahmed said developing Nigeria’s digital human capital remained critical to achieving sustainable economic growth and ensuring that young Nigerians could compete effectively in the global digital economy. (NAN)
