Youths across Nigeria have been urged to rise up and take an active role in nation-building, with a call for them to harness their potential toward creating a better and more prosperous country.

The call was made by the Founder of the “I Am Nigeria movement”, Ismah Alade, while speaking with journalists during activities organised to commemorate National Youth Day.

The I Am Nigeria movement was established to remind Nigerians, particularly the youth, that being Nigerian is both a blessing and a responsibility that requires citizens to stand together and contribute to the development of the country.

According to Ismah Alade, the movement is also aimed at restoring pride, hope and unity among Nigerians, especially young people, while encouraging them to believe in their ability to make a positive difference.

A top member of the I Am Nigeria movement, Favour Johnson, said the popular belief that youths are the leaders of tomorrow is no longer applicable, as young people are already taking leadership roles across various sectors and contributing significantly to economic development.

Some youths from different professions who joined the movement said being young in Nigeria comes with both responsibilities and challenges, stressing that the power to transform the nation lies largely in the hands of the younger generation.

The National Youth Day celebration brought together young Nigerians from different parts of the country and various professional backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to promoting national pride, unity and development.

The participants called on their peers to embrace their responsibilities and work collectively toward building a stronger and more united Nigeria.
