Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has launched a grassroots political engagement aimed at strengthening his party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

The governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Tofa, in a statement released on Wednesday, said Yusuf made the declaration during an interactive session with members of the APC Polling Unit Supporters Association, popularly known as ‘Yan Akwatina, led by Najib Salati.

According to the statement, the association has structures across Kano State’s 44 local government areas, 484 wards and polling units, making it one of the party’s largest grassroots mobilisation platforms.

The statement quoted Yusuf as saying that the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 would provide an opportunity to consolidate the gains of the administration’s economic reforms and infrastructure development.

He added that sustained grassroots mobilisation would strengthen the party’s support base and position it for victory in the presidential, governorship and other elections.

As part of efforts to support the association, the governor reportedly donated plots of land and ₦100 million to assist its activities.

“The re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 remains the best political opportunity for Nigeria to consolidate the gains of the administration’s economic reforms and accelerated infrastructure development,” the statement quoted Yusuf as saying.

The governor also stressed the importance of mobilising supporters from the polling unit level to reinforce the party’s electoral strength.

“Our grassroots engagement will further strengthen the party’s support base and ensure victory across all elective positions in the state and at the national level,” he was quoted as saying.

Earlier, the governor’s Political Adviser, Mustapha Bakwana, described the meeting as the commencement of the party’s grassroots mobilisation strategy for the 2027 elections.

According to him, the Polling Unit Supporters Association has the capacity to mobilise at least 1,122,200 votes for Tinubu in the next presidential election.

The association’s leader, Najib Salati, commended the governor for carrying members along through appointments into state and local government positions.

He pledged the group’s commitment to working for the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.

Also speaking, the party’s Kano State Chairman, Umar Doguwa, expressed confidence that it would record a landslide victory, saying its support base continued to expand as preparations for the elections gathered momentum.
