Kawu Sumaila Raises the Bar as Governor Yusuf Tasks Kano Lawmakers with More Development

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has described Senator Kawu Sumaila as a worthy ambassador of his people, commending his commitment to effective representation and his efforts towards attracting meaningful development to Kano South Senatorial District.

Governor Yusuf made the commendation on Sunday at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, while speaking at a special event organised by Muryar Kano ta Kudu in honour of Senator Kawu Sumaila, where the Senator presented an account of his legislative achievements and development interventions in his constituency.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad in Kano on Sunday.

The Governor said effective representation goes beyond occupying an elected office, stressing that it requires staying connected to the people being represented, understanding their needs and working consistently to improve their lives.

Governor Yusuf therefore challenged lawmakers from Kano State at all levels to emulate Senator Sumaila’s achievements by making the delivery of the dividends of democracy to their respective constituencies a priority.

In his presentation, Senator Kawu Sumaila gave an extensive account of his legislative activities at the National Assembly, highlighting various motions and bills he sponsored and supported during his tenure in the Senate.

The Senator also detailed the development projects and interventions facilitated in Kano South, covering critical sectors including security, healthcare, education, irrigation farming and other areas directly connected to the welfare and socio-economic development of the people.

He expressed appreciation to the people of the Senatorial District for their support and promised to do more towards advancing the development of the area if given another opportunity to serve.

The Senator pledged to remain committed to the people and to use any renewed mandate to build on the achievements recorded so far, while focusing on interventions that address the needs and aspirations of the constituents.

In separate remarks, serving and former lawmakers, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders from Kano South who attended the event commended Senator Sumaila for his contributions to the development of the Senatorial District.

The speakers expressed strong support for his continued representation, describing his record of constituency engagement and development interventions as worthy of recognition and emulation.

They reaffirmed their solidarity with the Senator and called for sustained collaboration among political leaders, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to accelerate development across Kano South.

The event provided an opportunity for constituents and stakeholders to assess the Senator’s stewardship and reaffirm the importance of responsive, accessible and development-oriented representation.
