Members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State are set for a defining moment as the Forum of 2023 Federal House of Representatives and State Assembly Candidates under the PDP banner has announced the date for its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The meeting, scheduled to hold this Sunday, July 13, marks a pivotal step as a result of deepening crisis within the party’s Kano chapter.
Led by Ambassador Abdul Rahman M. Salga Mainasara, the chairman of the Forum and a former Federal House of Representatives Candidate in 2023 elections, the NEC meeting aims to deliberate their future direction and alliances.
Key on the agenda will be making decisions based on findings as regards the growing lack of unity and concerns over alleged anti-party activities that have rocked the state’s PDP structure since the 2023 elections.
In an exclusive interview, Ambassador Mainasara did not hold back his concerns. He stated, “After thorough investigation, we found out that the PDP leaders of Kano State are working for current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and Wike is allegedly working for the ruling APC.”
The revelations have stirred outrage within party loyalists and 2023 candidates many of whom have voiced frustration over what they see as betrayal and sabotage from within.
Mainasara emphasized the urgency of the situation, warning that the party must take decisive action to protect its integrity and relevance in Kano.
“We cannot allow insensitive individuals to take control of our country. Therefore, we need to come out and fight for our life,” he added, underscoring the gravity of the forum’s concerns over the PDP’s prospects in Kano.
The upcoming NEC meeting will serve as a platform to chart a course forward.
According to the Forum, the decisions reached on July 13 will lay the groundwork for a united front and the future of current members of PDP in Kano.
Political observers are closely watching these developments, viewing the Forum’s moves as potentially reshaping the party’s landscape in one of Nigeria’s politically strategic states.
As the PDP continues to grapple with internal rifts nationwide, all eyes will be on Kano this weekend. How the Forum can steer members of the party toward unity and renewed purpose remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: the core of the PDP in Kano is unsettled.
