The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of a car theft syndicate and recovered three stolen vehicles in a renewed crackdown on vehicle-related crimes in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Kano.
He said the arrests were carried out in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on sustained intelligence-led and technology-driven policing operations.
According to him, operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS), under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, arrested one Aliyu Mamman, 35, at Hotoro Ring Road, Kano, on Feb. 13.
Kiyawa said the suspect, a resident of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara, confessed to stealing several vehicles across Kano, Kaduna and Katsina states.
“The suspect further implicated other members of his syndicate, namely Abdulhamid Usman, Saliha Abdulhamid, Auwal Shuaibu, Sani Bala and Ahmad Mannir, all of whom have been arrested,” he said.
He added that the suspects confessed to the crimes, leading to the recovery of three stolen vehicles, including a Golf Wagon, Golf Opel and Hijet (Kurkura) vehicles.
The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police commended the Special Intervention Squad for its professionalism and dedication in achieving the breakthrough.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
Kiyawa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe environment for residents through community-oriented policing.
