Some people build careers, while others go beyond that — they build people, institutions, and lasting legacies. I believe Professor Abdulrashid Garba belongs to the second group.

For more than three decades, Professor Garba has dedicated himself to teaching, research, academic administration, and service to the education sector. His journey has earned him respect as a scholar, administrator, mentor, and leader.

As a Professor of Educational Guidance and Counselling at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), he has played an important role in the academic and professional development of many students and scholars.

His time as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) also reflected his commitment to academic excellence and the growth of the university.

His service did not stop at the university. He served as Special Adviser to the Minister of Education and later as Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examinations Council (NECO), where he brought his experience and knowledge to an institution that plays an important role in Nigeria’s education system.

Today, as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Kano, Professor Garba continues to bring his experience, vision, and commitment to higher education. Being the pioneer Vice-Chancellor comes with a special responsibility — helping to build a strong academic culture and laying a solid foundation for the future of the institution.

His recognition as a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Education is another important milestone in a career dedicated to scholarship and education.

What I find most remarkable about Professor Abdulrashid Garba’s journey is that his leadership has always been closely connected with service, knowledge, mentorship, and institution-building.

His legacy is not only about the positions he has held, but also about the people he has influenced, the institutions he has served, and the values he continues to promote.

Professor Abdulrashid Garba a scholar, a leader, a mentor, and an educator whose contributions will continue to inspire generations.

May his dedication to education, leadership, and national service continue to bring lasting benefits to Nigeria and beyond.

A legacy of scholarship.
A legacy of leadership.
A legacy of service.
