Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and two other former ministers have lost their governorship ambitions after failing to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets in their respective states, following their resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet ahead of the 2027 elections.

In Bauchi State, former Governor Mohammed Abubakar emerged victorious in the APC governorship primary, defeating Tuggar and five other aspirants.

Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to clinch the party’s ticket, while Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes. Other contenders included Nura Manu Soro with 13,638 votes, Bala Wunti with 13,648 votes, and Kabir Ma’aji with 8,157 votes.

The result was announced by the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Committee Chairman, John Abang, who confirmed Abubakar as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

Tuggar had resigned his ministerial position on March 30 in line with President Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office in 2027 to step down from their roles.

The development reflects a wider political shake-up within the ruling party as several former cabinet members struggle to secure party nominations ahead of the next general election.
