Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the employment of 100 unemployed graduates from Biu Local Government Area as part of efforts to address youth unemployment, curb political thuggery and tackle other social vices.
Governor Zulum announced the initiative during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha II, while on an official visit to Southern Borno for the flag-off of the 2026 wet farming season and the commencement of subsidised fertiliser sales.
The governor said the employment programme is designed to empower young people and reduce their vulnerability to criminal activities and political violence. He directed the Biu Local Government Council to identify 100 qualified unemployed graduates, particularly those in health-related disciplines, English, Mathematics and Physics, for immediate employment.
Professor Zulum also disclosed that every local government area in the state would employ 50 graduates, while larger councils, including Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Jere, Bama, Askira/Uba and Gwoza, would recruit 100 graduates each.
Governor Zulum further announced that the running mate to the APC governorship candidate, Engineer Mustapha Gubio, would be unveiled next week, noting that 27 aspirants had indicated interest in the position.
He called on residents to pray for the emergence of the most suitable candidate
