Police authorities in Calabar have confirmed the rescue of the three University of Calabar students who were kidnapped about fifteen days ago from their hostel. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, says the students were rescued at a creek in Calabar through the joint effort from the police and the Department of State Security, DSS.
In a release signed by the public relations officer of the university, Effiong Eyo, the students, Ojang Precious Ebejin, Ugwu Chukwuemeka and Damilola Dickson, were released unharmed and have been re-united with their parents.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, thanked security agencies in the state for their collaboration and sustained efforts that led to the release of the students. She also thanked parents of the students for their efforts and collaboration with the school management during the period of their children’s captivity.
Prof Obi advised students on campus to be cautious about their movements and to always report any signs of suspected movements around them to the school security personnel for prompt action.
