COAS to troops: ‘Give a final, finishing blow to terrorists’

Lieutenant Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, Nigerian Chief of Army Staff has completed a week-long army conference in Maiduguri with a call to commanders to deal decisively with Boko Haram terrorists.

The Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2023 gathered participants from different sectors and formations of military and paramilitary agencies to brainstorm on the way forward.

The event took place on Friday at Maj. Gen. MSA Aliyu Hall Command Guest House, Maiduguri, Borno State.

Gen. Lagbaja said briefs and interactive sessions during the conference is expected to reinforce the ability of the commanders to confront the tasks ahead of them decisively.

‘The tasks ahead of us are not easy. As I affirmed during the opening ceremony, I do not doubt your competencies and commitments to ensuring we join hands together with our sister services and other security agencies to create a good environment for good governance and economic prosperity for our people.

‘I look forward to the early demonstration of the summary of decisions taken during this conference, to enable necessary information by all concerned.

‘The Nigerian Army cannot afford to show weakness because the adversary we fight is emboldened by our weakness, as you depart from here I change you to recalibrate your strength to deal a decisive blow to the them within the area of your responsibilities.

‘You must, however, exercise the restraint when dealing with the law-abiding citizens we are constitutionally charged to protect,’ the army chief said.

He concluded by assuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unflinching loyalty and commitment of the army to the defence of Nigerian democracy and upholding its constitution.

Similarly, the COAS appreciated Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, Governor of Borno and the good people of the state for being good and supportive hosts.

‘I congratulate the government and the people of the state, for the milestone attained in restoring peace and reinvigorating economic activities,’ he added.
