The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kano State Chapter, has joined the nationwide call for the immediate release of kidnapped teachers and students in Oyo State and other parts of the country.
The demand was made during a solidarity rally organized by members of the union in Kano, where teachers gathered to express concern over the growing insecurity affecting schools and educational institutions across Nigeria.
Participants at the rally carried placards with various inscriptions calling on security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts toward rescuing all abducted victims and preventing future attacks on schools.
Speaking during the event, the Deputy Chairman of the union, Sunusi Minjibir, described the continuous attacks on teachers and learners as a serious threat to the country’s educational development. He noted that the safety of teachers and students must remain a top priority for government at all levels.
Minjibir stressed that any attack on teachers is an attack on education and the future of the nation. He urged both the federal and state governments to take urgent and decisive measures to secure schools and ensure that learning takes place in a safe environment.
The union also called for improved security around schools, particularly in vulnerable communities, and appealed to security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and rapid response mechanisms to curb the menace of kidnapping.
Members of the union reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at safeguarding the education sector while expressing solidarity with affected families and communities. They prayed for the safe return of all kidnapped teachers and students and urged authorities not to relent until every victim is rescued.
