Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have rescued two abducted children and foiled an attempted cattle-rustling operation in Bakin Komau, Dangora community, in Kiru Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kano, saying the swift intervention of NSCDC personnel prevented the criminals from carrying out their mission.
Abdullahi said the command received a distress call shortly after the attack, prompting operatives stationed around the nearby Dansoshiya Forest to mobilise to the scene.
The NSCDC personnel engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped children and flee into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds.
“The swift intervention of our personnel successfully foiled the kidnapping and cattle-rustling operation, leading to the rescue of the two children,” the statement noted.
The rescued children were reunited with their family, while the injured shepherd, identified as 70-year-old Alhaji Saleh, was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
The command explained that the operatives were deployed to the area as part of efforts to provide security for an ongoing dam construction project and protect nearby grazing reserves and farming communities from criminal activities.
Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets across the state.
He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains essential for effective security response and crime prevention.
Agalama assured the public that the command would sustain its operations against criminal elements and strengthen measures aimed at ensuring the safety of communities across Kano State.
