The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Revd. Dr. Olusola David Idowu, has called on Baptist churches to be more intentional about planting churches on school campuses and strengthening discipleship efforts, particularly within higher institutions of learning.

Dr. Idowu made the call while delivering his Presidential Address at the ongoing 46th Annual Congress of the Men’s Missionary Union (MMU) of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, holding at the Ecumenical Centre, Igbogene, Bayelsa State.

According to the Convention President, only about 20 percent of higher institutions in Nigeria have been reached by the Baptist mission, with established Baptist structures present in even fewer institutions.

He therefore stressed the urgent need for the Convention, Conferences and local churches to give greater attention to campus evangelism, church planting and intentional discipleship, describing higher institutions as strategic mission fields for reaching and shaping the next generation.

Dr. Idowu also urged Baptist churches to remain faithful in their financial remittances to the Convention and called for maximum cooperation with the leadership of both the Men’s Missionary Union and the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

He concluded by congratulating the MMU on the successful hosting of its 46th Annual Congress and expressed appreciation to the entire Baptist family for their commitment to the growth of the Convention and the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
