SSG Extols FAO For Multiple Intervention Programmes In Borno state

The Secretary to the Borno State government who is also a former ADG of FAO, Bukar Tijani, has commended the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) for the various intervention programmes it has executed in the state.

Speaking yesterday during the celebration of 2023 world food day with the theme “Water is life, water if food, leave no one behind” said the day serves as a reminder to world leaders to come together and develop strategies to mitigate climate change, insurgency and inflation that is affecting small scale and large scale farmers In food planting and production.

According to him, the training program offered to indigines of Borno in rural communities by FAO through its Maiduguri office on vegetable planting, animal rearing, turn brown making among many others is in alignment with Governor Zulum’s goal of ensuring food production and sufficiency in the state.

On his part, Jasper Mwesigwa, Representing the FAO Head office in Maiduguri while delivering the speech of the Director General of FAO world wide, noted that the world is witnessing a growing population and climate change, as such, there must be collective effort in mitigating it’s effect by making efficient use of water to produce food that gives quality life.

He reiterated the organization’s support in partnering with its units and offices in North East in providing training and support to local farmers in the area of food production, animal and livestock rearing.

One of the FAO programme beneficiary in the community, Aisha Muhammad thanked the organization for the intervention program and promised to use the knowledge gained from it for personal and economic growth.

Highlights of the event Includes distribution of food, Exhibition of FAO projects, cultural dance presentations by open theater group and drama by the host community.
