It was a historic day at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on Monday, 18th August, 2025, as Professor Haruna Musa officially assumed duty as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the institution, succeeding Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas.

The colourful handing-over ceremony, attended by members of the University community and stakeholders, marked a new chapter in the life of BUK.

The official handover event held on Monday, Professor Musa pledged to lead a transparent and inclusive administration.

He emphasized his commitment to teamwork, consultation, and dedication, expressing his readiness to elevate the university’s global standing.

“I am committed to working through consultation, collaboration, and dedication to move Bayero University forward and enhance its global ranking,” he stated.

He commended his predecessor, Professor Abbas, for his impactful leadership and expressed deep appreciation for the mentorship he received while serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

“I want to sincerely thank you, sir, for the mentorship you provided. I hope that door remains open whenever I seek your advice or guidance,” he said.

Professor Musa also vowed to build on the legacy of his predecessors, whom he credited with setting the university on a strong and progressive path.

He expressed gratitude to the University Council and the entire university community for the confidence and support they have shown in electing him as Vice-Chancellor.

In his remarks, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, congratulated Professor Musa and urged the university community to extend the same level of support to the new leadership.

“Today is a very important day for me, as I am handing over leadership peacefully. This is commendable because, unlike in some universities where leadership transitions are marked by conflict, we in BUK have always maintained peace and decorum,” he said.

Reflecting on the handover ceremony, Professor Abbas noted the impressive turnout, saying, “In the history of this university, there has never been a handover ceremony attended by so many people. This reflects the kind of leadership we offered.”

He extended his best wishes to Professor Musa, saying, “I congratulate my brother, Haruna Musa. I urge you to build upon the foundation we laid, complete ongoing projects, and continue to preserve the unity of this great institution.”

Professor Abbas concluded by thanking God for guidance and protection throughout his tenure.
